Create an asset that presents Kona Big Wave in this key market despite being away from the usual tropical scenery that provides a backdrop to the Kona brand. While we needed to capture the energy of the festival, legal restrictions prevented us from filming the stage or any performers.
Rather than relying on landscapes or performance footage, I leaned into Kona’s “Aloha” spirit by focusing on the festival-goers’ energy capturing great vibes, authentic interactions, and dynamic product shots to immerse viewers in the experience.
To maintain the high energy of a live music event, I used quick-cut editing, allowing the festival atmosphere to shine without the need for stage footage. We also navigated significant production challenges. Unable to fly a drone, we shot a ferris wheel POV to achieve aerial-style footage. When severe weather disrupted filming, my strong connection and coordination with the crew enabled us to return for a second shoot day, ensuring we captured everything we needed.
The final video became Kona Big Wave’s top-performing organic content piece of 2024, proving the power of creative problem-solving and strong storytelling.
